Is Mexico safe?
Is it safe to travel to Baja, Mexico? I have gotten this question many times over the years from eager but cautious traveler looking for adventure just south of the border, and the short answer is Yes!
Ever since I was a kid, I have traveled back and forth over the border from San Diego to Baja to visit Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada, Valle de Guadalupe and many other areas and to be completely honest I feel safer in Baja than some places north of the border. If you ask most anyone who has actually traveled to Baja recently will probably tell you the same, since the horror stories are told by those, who have never traveled to Mexico much less Baja in most cases.
I try and spend as much time in Baja as possible, and I enjoy going out on the town meeting new people and taking in new experiences. Baja has so much to offer I still haven't probably will never get tired of it. Everything from the bars and nightlife with super helpful and in most cases fully bilingual staff, to its many beaches with many vendors to get you anything from an ice-cold beer to snacks or even a superhero kite and who can forget the offroad our favorite activity here at CMA with so much to see out in the mountains and desert.
In my almost 13 years working here at CMA and crossing the border more times than I can count and I have spent a lot of time on both sides of the border I can safely say that Baja is a beautiful and friendly place that makes you feel at home. Don't think twice. Visit Mexico, visit Baja and prove the horror stories wrong. And with the Baja 1000 race coming this weekend there is no better time to head south of the border.
