Baja is coming back in a big way
Baja California is our home away from home here at CMA, and it's just a quick drive from San Diego, but trust me it is so much different than you might think. No longer is Baja just your usual tourist/vacation destination where you can pay a couple of bucks to take a picture on a Zonkey with a big Hat.
The popularity of craft beer and microbreweries has spilled over the border and is taking off in a big way, and I can't wait to check out places like The Beer Box, Agua Mala, Wendlandt, Mamut, Border Psycho Brewery and Cerveceria Insurgente. Some of these delicious foamy drinks have already received awards for being on of the top 25 best-tasting beers by "Draft Magazine", and not to mention most of them for just a couple bucks a glass.
Foodies will be happy to hear that there a place for us in the new Baja scene, and we have a whole new menu to choose from. No longer are we limited to choosing from corner tacos stands, now we can choose from Baja-Med fine dining to food trucks who combine international flavors with traditional Mexican flavors from all over the country to create a whole new experience for your mouth.
Baja hasn't gone unnoticed by Hollywood with more and more filming being done in there. Probably best known for Titanic (1997) but many films have been made in Baja. Some of which are 007 Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Pearl Harbor (2001), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), Jumper (2008), All Is Lost (2013), Little Boy (2015), Point Break (2015), Larceny (2016). One of the most recent productions AMC's Fear the Walking Dead that had everyone running from the undead in the streets and beaches of Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada.
You can’t mention Baja without talking about off-road and its man races by many different off-road organizations like RECORD, CODE and most well know SCORE Intl. who has just announced a new race in their desert championship series to take place in Rosarito from Sept 16-18 and for sure you can count on the whole CMA crew coming out to see the race and hopefully this will a permanent installment of the race roster in Baja.
So there you go Off-road, awesome food, tasty beers, and good cinema as you can see Baja has everything and anything you can want. That's why we love it down there for a weekend, a week, or the entire summer. And from what I can tell it’s only going to get better from here on so don't even think about it, call your friends, load up the car and head south for the summer to enjoy all that Baja has to offer.
